Presentations

Rider of the day and machine of the meeting are sponsored by Associated
Beverages and Myself.

I asked Viv for a few words on why she did this sponsorship, and this is
what she said:

I sponsor the Rider and Machine of the Meeting for many reasons, people
that win our awards may not necessarily win races.
There are many aspects to racing, and although winning may be the ultimate
aim, there are others and if they are never acknowledged, then they may
never have that spur that drives them on.
A really good 'dice' down the field can 'save' a boring race when the winner
is a foregone conclusion,a really good 'dice' at the front can be really
exciting too!

Novices can turn in entertaining and stunning performances, thus surprising
'diehards'
Riders that have taken a tumble often get back on and race their hearts out,
knowing they can't win, but give us all a good show. Then go home to nurse
their bruised bodies and bikes.

Some riders do not have the skill or inclination to push that extra percent,
but exhibit amazing machinery for us to drool over.

Without the midfield, what would the frontrunners be? Without the
tailenders, how good would anyone else look?

If the talent had the money? If the money had the talent? How would it all
be then?

Everyone out there, including the paraders, has something to offer, I just
think that should be recognised and rewarded in some way. For example, Brian
Lumley rode his fabulous Manx in the parade for many many years. As a
parader he would never get an award, if it wasn't for the machine of the
meeting.
It was a privilege to be part of the mechanism that allowed Brian the
accolade he so richly deserved.

Thanks for that insight Viv.

As for why do I do it?

I just think it's nice for someone to have a commemorative picture of the
event. Every winner of the award (if I'm at the meeting) gets a mounted
photograph of the presentation, and if I've managed to catch them in action,
one of them riding.

Lastly Viv's company do vending and fresh coffee, and a link to her website
can be found on the links page. She assures me they do it really well.

Other presentations can be found in the other folder.
